Rest in Peace Matoi

Matoi (June 7, 1986 – May 18, 2016)

It is with great sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of the immortal Matoi (Zodiac Matador+ x Toi Ellenai), who left us today, just shy of 30 years. Bred by Pinnacle Arabians, Matoi became the foundation sire of Cedar Ridge Arabians the day he was purchased by Lara Ames on September 15, 1999, from Wrigley Arabians.

A multi-National and Regional Champion in Arabian Park and Formal Driving, Matoi was the ultimate showman and could move like no other—a true show stopper and class act. He was born for the ring and he was known for his ease of riding, because he loved what he did. He sired almost 300 offspring, a great many of them champions as well.

With an upcoming birthday bash planned for Matoi’s 30th year, we celebrated the life of this amazing stallion early, sharing stories and tears. He loved peppermint candies and would do pretty much anything to get one … He could be unhappy, but as soon as that gate opened, he was a star … He did not like to reverse, so it was always a challenge to figure out how to do it without him knowing what you were doing … He was a gentle horse that loved to perform.

Matoi is gone, but will never be forgotten.

Have a favorite Matoi story to share? All of us at Cedar Ridge would love to hear from you!

A life celebrated …
